Heales Cycles has been a family business since the mid 30's when Lionel Heales came to the shop following an injury incurred in his work as a steeplejack and he remained living over the shop until his death in 1979.
His widow Winn had worked with Lionel in the shop throughout their marriage and was an accomplished wheel builder and cycle mechanic. She continued to live over and run the shop until her sudden death in July 1991 aged 74 years.
Lionel and Winn were long-time members of the Victoria Cycling Club.
Following a major refit Colin reopened the shop in June 1992 and was joined by Ashley in 1995 who subsequently became a partner in the business.
At the end of 1993 Trevor came and set up Heales Racing as his own business taking a section of the floor area in which he specialises in road and track racing equipment thus enabling the 'shop' to offer a wide expertise to its customers.
In view of the limited space a good deal of consideration was given to which brands of cycle to carry on the basis that if a reasonable selection were to be stocked only two main brands could be accommodated.
For this reason Dawes was chosen as a manufacturer offering quality British hand built products right across the range from Race through Touring (including the renowned Galaxy Tourer), to Street, Hybrid and a wide range of Mountain Bikes.
After long consideration it was decided to take in Marin as a manufacturer of top quality, lightweight, race oriented Mountain Bikes who were totally committed to remaining at the leading edge of technology, whilst maintaining a commitment to looking after their customers. This has proved to be a correct decision particularly since they currently lead the industry with their range of world acclaimed Full Suspension Bikes.
Colin then retires in October 1998 and is replaced by Dennis who joins Ashley as new Partner.
1999 Trevor Maddern moves from Heales to open his own shop Ciclos Uno in New North Road, Hainault, where he has an excellent range of road bikes.
July 1999 - 2002 Heales takes on Orange Mountain Bikes and becomes a premier dealer for this very successful English range, which had achieved good results in competition with its suspension range.
March 2001 Heales takes on Scott USA which offers a huge range of bikes and accessories, the range was chosen for its quality and high value for money specifications.
August 2002 Heales takes on Gary Fisher which also had an excellent reputation in race and renowned for their good quality and innovative designs.
December 2004 Heales takes on Cannondale which are synonymous with high end products with quality to match, are now competitive with all ranges of bikes and prices.
